All things you need to know about flying affordably and staying in different places abroad... coming from a college student who studied abroad!!
FLYING
Apps:
Skyscanner
Expedia
Student Universe
These are all apps that will help you find the cheapest flights. I used these religiously and all were super helpful.
Airlines I used:
Ryanair
British airways
Aer Lingus
Air Canada
American
Easyjet (used the most)
Lufthansa
Norwegian airlines
United
Frontier
With these airlines you have to be careful with bags. Sometimes they are really strict and are often cheap if you only take a backpack.
CHEAP PLACES TO STAY
Apps:
Hostel world
Airbnb
Expedia
Staying in a hostel is often the cheapest, most affordable, and safe when traveling (especially alone).
I also liked staying in airbnb's because I could stay somewhere unique, more privacy, and cheap.
Booking.com was ok I didn't use it a ton and wouldn't really recommend it.
Expedia is great too but tends to show more expensive places.
If you go with a group I recommend airbnb because it is so much fun and affordable if split.
Top Airbnb Places I Stayed:
Nazaré, Portugal - "The houses of the Ilhéu" - hosted by Beatriz
Lofoten Islands, Norway - "Lofoten Fjord Apartment in Kvalvika Beach and Ryten -hosted by Regine
Flakstad, Norway - "The dome" - hosted by Joakim
Tjeldsund, Norway - "Tjeldøya Castle" - hosted by Ragnar
Split, Croatia - "Heart of Split Heritage Apartment" - hosted by Vanda
Diemtigen, Switzerland - "Studio Simmentalblick" - hosted by Manuela and Marcel
Remember, if you don't feel safe or feel uncomfortable, reach out to airbnb and do NOT stay!! Your safety is way more important than feeling bad about canceling your reservation.
Happy Traveling!
